Venue & Travel Information

The 9th International Mathematica Symposium (IMS'08) will be held at Maastricht University June 20-24th 2008. Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands (if not the oldest) and was founded by the Romans. Located in the south of the Netherlands on both sides of the Meuse river (dutch: Maas) it is a popular tourist destination. Owing to Maastricht University and the Maastricht Conservatory it also has an active student scene.

The conference rooms are located in the city center at walking distance of one another. Below, from left to right, Onze Lieve Vrouwe Plein, the three conference rooms and the patio of one of the univeristy buildings where the rooms are located.

Travel Information
Public transport
One can conveniently reach Maastricht in less than 3 hours from Schiphol airport (near Amsterdam) by train. There is also a 2 hour and 15 minutes TGV connection between Paris (France) and Liege (Belgium) and a 1 hour and 15 minutes connection between Bruxelles airport (Belgium) and Liege (Belgium). Liege, Luik in dutch, is reachable by a direct train connection from Maastricht in about 30 minutes. Maastricht has a small airport with regular flights to and from Amsterdam, London and Duesseldorf. Alternatively one can take a flight to Eindhoven airport and take a 1 hour train ride to Maastricht. Many budget airlines operate this airport so it might be worth checking out this option, especially for european conference visitors.

By car
The A2 provides a good connection in the direction of Eindhoven or Li├Ęge and the A76 connects Maastricht with cities such as Aachen or Cologne. There is also a good connection in the direction of Tongeren.
